**"Blow off CO₂"**는 의학에서 매우 흔히 쓰이는 표현으로,

이산화탄소(CO₂)를 배출하다 또는 몸 밖으로 내보내다라는 뜻입니다.

주로 환기를 증가시켜 CO₂를 더 많이 제거하는 것을 의미합니다.

예문

• We need to blow off more CO₂.
  → CO₂를 더 많이 배출해야 합니다.
• Increase the respiratory rate to blow off CO₂.
  → CO₂를 배출하기 위해 호흡수를 늘리세요.
• The patient isn't blowing off enough CO₂.
  → 환자가 CO₂를 충분히 배출하지 못하고 있습니다.

응급실에서 자주 쓰는 상황

환자의 혈액가스 검사에서 PaCO₂가 높을 때(고탄산혈증) 의료진이 다음과 같이 말할 수 있습니다.

• "Let's bag the patient to blow off some CO₂."
  → 백밸브마스크(BVM)로 환기를 해서 CO₂를 좀 배출합시다.
• "Turn up the minute ventilation to blow off CO₂."
  → 분당환기량을 늘려 CO₂가 더 배출되도록 합시다.

• Blow off CO₂ = CO₂를 배출하다
• Increase ventilation → Blow off more CO₂ → PaCO₂ decreases (혈중 CO₂ 감소)

 

 

"She fell off the ladder and got this banged up?"

"사다리에서 떨어져서 이렇게까지 다친 거예요?"

Here, banged up means:

• bruised
• injured
• battered
• hurt in several places (usually not implying a specific severe injury)

It's a common informal expression in the ER.

Examples

• He got pretty banged up in the car accident.
  → 그는 교통사고로 꽤 많이 다쳤어요.
• You look a little banged up.
  → 많이 다친 것 같네요.
• She fell off the ladder and got this banged up?
  → 사다리에서 떨어져서 이렇게까지 다친 거예요?

In an emergency department

You might also hear:

• Is this how she got all these injuries?
  → 이렇게 다친 게 그 사고 때문인가요?
• She got pretty banged up.
  → 그녀는 꽤 많이 다쳤어요.
• He looks pretty banged up.
  → 많이 다친 것처럼 보이네요.

Note: If the speaker is pointing at obvious injuries, they might say "this banged up" (meaning "injured to this extent"). If not, it's even more common to say:

• She fell off the ladder and got so banged up?
  → 사다리에서 떨어져서 그렇게 많이 다친 거예요?
